The Android Dairies: Part 1

We recently released Live TV, our second app for Android. Although it’s based on our popular Live TV iOS app, adapting the Android version to the different UI concepts and conventions on Android was an interesting challenge. Our Android development team use the platform full-time, but I felt that I needed more first-hand experience with it to really understand what needed to be done for our apps.

I have played with Android devices running 2.x and 3.x in the past, but the OS and 3rd party apps always felt lacking compared to iOS. But the Nexus 4/5 phones and Android 4.x have helped the platform reach a new level of app quality.

I’ve now got a Nexus 5 running 4.4 “KitKat” and will be posting a few bit and pieces I’ve picked up for other long-time iOS developers / product people looking at Android.

Head over to part 2 for a look at the Nexus 5.
